In writing, performance and visual art, David Liver incisively provokes the boundaries that define cultural standards.
David Liver considers writing to be the root of his creative output. A major Liver’s theme is the institution of “Believes” in the western social identity and it’s particular system of faith.
Recognizing "Jewishness" as his own creative root and as a role conferred by a history of all discrimination (and discrimination as an aesthetic system of values), Liver inhabits certain racial stereotypes in order to displace them and conjure a more ambivalent identity, one that comes closer to reflecting his personal experience of being lost in translation of his own background. In his "confessional" column and speeches, Liver explore a more intimate voice, composed by a shifted comedian-like-mode of writing and the heritage of the conceptual art.
Performances such "Dein Jude", the “Cheap talk series” or “From the general intellect” were all voluntarily poorly documented but Liver’s keeps a written testimony of all of them that he considers as the official left-over of his actions and his actual work as an artist.
In addition to its guerilla-style artwork and its unorthodox performance pieces, which involves everything from interacting with strangers to hiding from his audience, Liver is well known for its manipulation and perversion of languages, inspired by information streams, politics, religious scriptures and other personal texts.
David Liver's Y LIVER duo work, in collaboration with Rugiada Cadoni, was active from 1999 to 2013. Since 2013 art critic Fabien Pinaroli is collaborating with the artist and curating some of Liver's written perfomances which they call pre-actement.
